Hello Language Artists and their Families!
Thank you for another productive, fun week. I have seen quick, efficient progress on the Short Story Presentations and I can't wait to see the final result. It will be exciting to finish this phase so we can start our movie trailers, too!
This week, students will both present and be an audience for presentations on a variety of short stories. When not presenting, students will compare and contrast their story to the ones read by their peers. By learning to make connections between characters, themes, and other story elements, we start learning to make stronger connections between stories and our own lives; analyzing stories helps us build empathy and enrich our understanding of the world. All these short stories are posted on the Links & Documents page.
We also started our first vocabulary list yesterday. Every other week, students will receive 8 new words for which they must find definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and parts of speech; students must also use the word correctly in a sentence of their own creation. Check out the Links & Documents tab for the weekly vocab sheet and the current list of words. Every other Friday, one week after receiving the list and doing the required work, students will take a quiz that requires them to use the word correctly in a sentence, or correctly fill in the words in sentences with blanks, match words to definitions, etc. There will be a variety of different ways for students to show their knowledge of the words. Students can request vocabulary words on the list posted on the bulletin board by the door. List 1 assignment is due this Monday 9/28.
Check Synergy by Sunday evening to see new grades posted! Progress reports happen this week, but it's just a midway point for the term, so work can still be made up or improved.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Spiegel
