Hello Language Artists and their Families!
I think we're off to a great, if slow start! I am excited to pick up the pace next week as we start our short story unit, a personal 3-D resume project, and bring vocabulary into the mix. We are going to be practicing different ways to present and interpret information, working on our inference and analysis skills, and exploring complex themes while also teaching our classmates about ourselves.
This week, we did some journal writing and sharing, we worked on our "I was Raised By" poems, and we read a complex and sad article about garment workers in Bangladesh. Students wrote their initial responses to the article before working with partners to talk through and answer a series of close reading and critical thinking questions. We will have a discussion about the article on Monday, and students will be expected to turn in their initial responses as well as their written answers to the questions.
I can't wait to read all the "I was Raised By" poems (also due Monday) - students will share a part of their poems with their classmates, and we will compile a class poem together.
I also can't wait to meet all you awesome parents on back to school night! Come see us on Thursday, September 17th from 6-8. I'd love to meet you and tell you a bit about what's happening in the Language Arts Classroom this year. Hope to see you all there!
Thank you for being great, and have a wonderful weekend :)
Ms. Spiegel
