Hello Photographer's and their Families!
Here's an iconic photo shoot of John Lennon in 1974 by photographer Bob Gruen to celebrate his birthday today! Though not alive anymore, he's still one of my all time favorite musical artists, and he was born on this day in 1940.

I hope your long weekend is going well so far! Nice work on the amazing lockers you're all painting - I had so much fun looking at all the awesome designs you came up with this year.
There's a ton going on in B&W Photography right now! We're doing Photograms and Photography in Motion. Capstone students are coming up with themes to focus on throughout the year. All 7th and 8th graders are registering for the Scholastic Art Awards. (Check the Links & Documents tab for access to all these resources)
Next week, we will start talking about more specific Capstone information, and we will discuss how to explore themes in our work. Students will be completing their Photograms and Shutter Speed (motion) assignments, and hopefully we'll be able to take a look at the work and have a mini-critique by the following week. I'm hoping that, as we wrap up this first quarter, we will begin to understand how to take this work seriously as artists, and how to critique work with a critical eye.
Even though there are 4 specific due dates for Image of the Week, the schedule has been so hectic that it may have been difficult to complete this work in a timely fashion. I would like students to turn in all 4 assignments before the end of the quarter, though the specific due dates may be less important. Please consider this work a very valuable and necessary part of your work as a photographer, though, and recognize that you will be marked down if you do not complete all four Image of the Week assignments.
It's going to get busier, but more fun as we go. Students are showing a tremendous effort to learn this craft and improve on the things they know. I'm impressed with more experienced students showing others how to do certain work, and being willing to help me when I ask. Thank you all for your continued hard work. I am confident we will get more serious and capable as the year goes on, and I'm already so excited about the work I'm seeing.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Spiegel
