Hello Photographers and their Families!
We have been having a great time getting to know the darkroom and the film processing area, while also starting the exploration into taking photographs. We will start making Photograms this week, while also discussing more elements of composition. I'm really proud at the initiative students are taking and the responsibility they are showing. We made a new organization system this week with three groups, and students have been doing a great job of following the rules and showing both skill and maturity throughout the process. We have some areas where we need to improve, but I am impressed with the work we are doing so far. This group is proving to be awesome!
We will also start doing capstone work this week, in addition to registering for the Scholastic art awards. I can't wait to see the kind of work we will produce together as we get further into the world of Black and White Photography.
Starting this coming week, students will be required to pick an Image of the Week each week. They will be able to choose photos from this blog, from other places on the internet approved by me, or in books from my library, etc. Students need to cite the source of their photograph in MLA format and write a paragraph response to the image. Their response can be related to why the like or dislike the image, composition, information about the photographer, emotional response, etc. It just has to be a paragraph of around 50 words (about 5 or 6 complex sentences). One of the best ways to learn to make photographs is to look at great photographs. Check the Links & Documents tab for the detailed assignment description.
Thank you all for your enthusiasm and willingness to learn to do things the right way so that your images turn out beautifully. I am encouraged by our work so far, and excited for what the future holds.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Spiegel
